12/29/2015 – Strategies for the House in Winter When the Utilities are Gone

Strategies for the House in Winter When the Utilities are Gone

Instructor and Host: Jim Phillips (view profile)

I get a lot of questions about, “How can I keep my house warm in winter when the utilities are out?”

In most cases people are thinking about being without utilities (especially heat) for a few hours or at most two or three days.  That’s not particularly hard to deal with by using a backup source of some power and heat, then you just wait it out, BUT

What are you prepared to do when they are really gone, and they are not coming back in the foreseeable future?

First, you have to accept the reality of this happening based on some very realistic forecasts. Once you get that through your head, you need to develop some strategies of how to get ready.  You do not have to take on all the possible solutions, but find the ones that fit you the best considering:

  1. 1- Where you live
  2. 2- Your resources of time and money, and
  3. 3- The realistic expectations for how you will live without the world as you currently know it.

This program presents a number of these strategies for you to choose from, then it’s up to you to get on with making the necessary provisions — otherwise hardship and suffering are guaranteed.
